Women Fall by 11 at Home Against Carthage
On the women's side, Lake Forest outscored Carthage in 7 of the 11 scored events but the Lady Reds still managed to edge out the Foresters 108-97. Senior Randi Estes (LaBelle, FL/Riverdale) finished first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:17.74) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:47.09). She was also on the winning 200-meter medley relay team, which finished in 2:13.66. Freshman Emily Woods (Signal Mountain, TN/Girls Prep) also swam a leg on that relay and, like Estes, won both of her individual events as well. Her time of 2:37.41 in the 200-meter individual medley was good for first place as was the 1:12.87 she swam in the 100-meter backstroke. Joining Estes and Woods on the 200-meter medley relay were juniors Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) and Erin Poynter (Fort Collins, CO/Ft. Collins). Motzer was also victorious in the 100-meter butterfly (1:10.88) and Poynter won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:23.80). The Forester men raised their record to 3-0 on the season by winning 8 of 11 events and the meet over the Redmen, 100-97. Junior Eric Boarini (Wadsworth, IL/Carmel) was on the winning 200-meter medley relay (1:58.41) and also finished first in both the 200-meter (2:05.58) and 100-meter (55.47) freestyle events. Fellow junior Brandon Johnson (Phoenix, AZ/Brophy) also won a pair of individual races. He finished the 800-meter freestyle in 9:19.14 and the 400-meter freestyle in 4:31.48. Boarini's teammates on the winning 200-meter medley relay were sophomores Brady Lowdermilk (Parker, CO/Regis), Jeremy Koop (Newton, KS/Newton), and Aaron Lawlor (Vernon Hills, IL/Libertyville). Lowdermilk was also victorious in the 100-meter backstroke (1:03.44) and Lawlor touched the wall first in the 100-meter butterfly (1:02.86). Next weekend (November 17-18th),
the Foresters will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, for the Washington University
Invitational. Prelims will be both Saturday and Sunday morning and finals
will be swum in the evenings.
