ST. LOUIS, MO - The Lake Forest College swimming and diving teams traveled south for the competitive Washington University Thanksgiving Invitational last weekend (November 23-24). The women's squad tallied 546 points to finish in third place, while the men were fourth with 338 points. The home team captured the championship of both meets.

Senior Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) earned 81 points for the Foresters with four individual top-six finishes and three more in relays. Her best race was the 200-yard butterfly, in which she placed second (2:13.27) and missed the national cut by just .3 of a second. She claimed fifth place in the 100 butterfly (1:03.41) and the 1650-yard freestyle (19:04.72) and sixth in the 500 free (5:32.79).

First-year swimmers Genia Lindsey (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia) and Erin Colwell (Northfield, MN/Northfield) also turned in strong performances, scoring 76 and 74 points, respectively. Lindsey placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.10), fifth in the 400 IM (4:56.57) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:20.41). Colwell was third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.67) and touched the wall just ahead of Motzer in the 100 butterfly (4th in 1.02.97).

Liz Eberlein (Troy, MI/Marian), Emily Woods (Signal Mountain, TN/Girls Prep), Marie Pool (Redding, CA/Central Valley) and Erin Poynter (Fort Collins, CO/Ft. Collins) combined to contribute seven top-eight finishes and a total of 175 points. Eberlein swam the 200 butterfly in 2:21.64 to finish fourth, Woods was fifth in the 50 free (26.33) and Pool swam the sixth fastest 100 free time (58.20). Finally, senior Dana Tate added another 32 points with her third-place performances in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.

The Forester men's team was led by junior Brady Lowdermilk (Parker, CO/Regis), who tallied 62 points in seven races. He came in fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 200- (2:05.39) and 100-yard (58.37) backstroke. Freshman Aaron Koop (Newton, KS/Newton) and senior Eric Boarini (Wadsworth, IL/Carmel) also registered top-eight finishes in individual races. Koop placed seventh in both the 100- (1:07.93) and 200-yard (2:28.49) breaststroke, while Boarini was eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (22.59). Interestingly, Boarini's 50 free time of 22.82 last year earned him a runner-up finish at the same meet.

The Foresters' final meet of the fall semester is the Wheaton College Invite on December 6 and 7.
