November 17, 2005 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID All-Midwest Conference Teams Include Four Foresters
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Midwest Conference released it 2005 All-MWC Volleyball Teams on Thursday (November 17) and four Lake Forest players made the list. Junior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) and sophomore Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) were First Team All-MWC selections. Baich led the Foresters with 409 kills and the league with 3.59 kills per game. She also led the squad with a .269 hitting percentage and 121 blocks. Her kills total ranked third in team history and her blocks total second. She also tied her own school record with 60 solo blocks. Balcerzak was next on the team with 353 kills and 82 blocks and led the squad with 52 aces. Her kills total ranked seventh in the program’s history and she is just 29 away from 1,000 kills in her career. She ranks fifth in team history in both career kills and aces and sixth in blocks. Second team honorees included senior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) and freshman Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan South). They led the 2005 team with 618 and 600 digs, respectively, and Miller ranked third on the team with 247 kills. Miller is also the program’s all-time leader with 2,083 digs in her career. Both players reached double figures in digs in all but three of the team’s 31 matches and one or the other led the Foresters in digs in all but two matches. Baich and Miller were second team selections last year. It marked the third straight season that Lake Forest has had four players earn all-conference honors and the 10th year in a row that at least two Foresters were named to the first team. Head Coach Beth Pier has directed players to 39 All-MWC selections, including 24 first team distinctions, in her 12 years with the program.
