Foresters Split Conference Matches over the Weekend

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Lake Forest College volleyball team split a pair of Midwest Conference matches over the weekend (October 10-11), falling at home in three sets to Beloit College Friday night and winning in five sets at Grinnell College the next afternoon. The Foresters are now 5-15 overall and 2-1 in league play this season. Beloit raised its overall record to 9-10 and MWC mark to 3-0. Grinnell fell to 6-14 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Senior Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) pounded out a match-high 14 kills on Friday, set a new career-high with 19 digs, and added three blocks. Sophomore Deena Blanchard (Sparta, Mich./Sparta) led the team's setters with a dozen assists and freshman Emily Seaman (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) paced the squad with two aces and a career-high 21 digs. Senior Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) added 19 digs and Blanchard 10.

Cretacci led all players again on Saturday with a career-high 21 kills. She also matched her 19 digs from the night before and recorded four more blocks. Sophomore Mandi Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) was next with 17 kills and added a match-high seven blocks. Blanchard led the team with 23 assists and five aces and Sturgill recorded a team-high 30 digs.

The Foresters will continue Midwest Conference play at St. Norbert College next Wednesday evening (October 15) at 7:00. The team will also take on host Lawrence University at 1:00 Saturday afternoon (October 18) and Edgewood College at 3:00.
