LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester women's basketball team hosted and defeated Monmouth College 75-67 Tuesday evening (February 2). Lake Forest raised its overall record on the season to 14-4 and remained in first place in the Midwest Conference with a league mark of 10-1. The Fighting Scots are now 11-7 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Senior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) entered the game with 998 career points and reached 1,000 on a basket less than five minutes into the contest. She is just the sixth player in program history to score 1,000 points in a Forester uniform. Nassin shot 3-for-4 in the game and finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, a game-high five assists, three blocked shots and a pair of steals.

Senior forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) led the Foresters on Tuesday with 20 points and she matched Nassin's seven rebounds. Senior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) also reached double figures with 10 points, recorded three steals, and pulled down seven boards as well.

Lake Forest entered the week leading the nation with a .479 field goal percentage and shot 49.1 percent from the field in the game. The team also knocked down 19 free throws in 26 attempts and out-rebounded the Fighting Scots 40-33. Monmouth was held to 35.3 percent shooting from the floor.

The Scots scored the game's first seven points and, after seven in a row by Lake Forest, rattled off six more to take a 13-7 lead. The game was tied again at 15, 17, and 19 before a 10-2 Forester run put the home team ahead for good. The lead grew to as many as 11 in the first half and was 41-32 at halftime.

The margin reached a game-high 17 points four different times in the second half, the last at 59-42 with 9:44 to play, but a 16-1 Monmouth run in less than five minutes pulled the visitors to within a basket. The Fighting Scots trimmed the lead to two three more times before the Foresters closed out the contest on an 8-2 run.

Lake Forest will take to the road this weekend. The team will play at Carroll University Friday evening at 5:30 and at St. Norbert College at 2:00 the following afternoon.
