Led by First Team selections Sarah Frantz (Lake Geneva, WI/Badger H.S.) and Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic H.S.), four members of the 1999 Midwest Conference champions were named to the All-Conference First or Second team. Senior co-captains Mary Gerke (Bend, OR/Bend H.S.) and Jessie Griffin (Beecher, IL/Marian Catholic H.S.) were Second Team picks.
Frantz, who was also named the league's Player of the Year, was a three-time MWC Player of the Week selection this fall. For the season, she collected 1,096 assists, the second highest total in school history. She now has the second, third, and fourth highest single season totals at Lake Forest. Frantz, who became the school's all-time leader for career assists early this season, now has 3,059 assists for her career. She also holds school records for assists in a four-game match (65) and five-game match (74). She broke the four-match record this season versus Grinnell. Also this season, she moved into second place for career aces with 161, just 7 behind current leader Anna Panighetti (1994-97). Frantz had a team-high 63 aces this season, the third-highest single season total in school history. In the single season assists category, Frantz holds the third, fifth, and eighth slots. Her 213 digs this season boosted her career total to 565, seventh in the school record books.
Reinboldt, also a First Team All-Conference honoree last year, led the team with 297 kills, 73 total blocks, and 101 games played (tied with Frantz). Her kills total was the second-highest single season total in school history and moves her into sixth place on the career kills list at Lake Forest. For the season, she hit a remarkable .306 (297 K, 108 E, 618 TA) and added 115 digs.
Gerke, a First Team All-MWC pick in 1997 and1998, finished her career as one of the finest volleyball players in school history. In the Lake Forest career record books, she is tied for seventh in aces (75), second in kills (835), first in total blocks (229), fifth in digs (609), first in hitting percentage (.274), second in solo blocks (84), and first for games played (350). For the 1999 season, Gerke contributed 21 aces, 225 kills, a .242 hitting percentage, 14 solo blocks, 57 total blocks, and 201 digs.
Griffin has also been a major force for the Foresters the past four seasons.
