Christine B. Morris - Short Essay A

I Am The Right Person To Be Teaching U.S. History

In United States history, we are taught that the first Americans were the Indigenous People. These people walked across the land bridge over the Bering Strait from their original homes thousands of years ago, searching for a better place to live. Later, Europeans came to this land that we now call the United States of America. These Europeans left their original homes because they were searching for a better place to live. As time went on, people from all over the world came to the United States of America searching for a better place to live.

I am an immigrant born of an American-born father and a Polish mother. My parents brought my sister and me to this country searching for a better place to live. In America, we found opportunities and a good life. My story is the story of millions of Americans.

I am proud to be able to teach my students about this country - its history and its literature. It is my way of "giving back." I empathize with the immigrants in my class. I believe that when they hear my story, they are energized and empowered to believe that they too can find opportunities for success in this land of possibilities. For the native-born Americans, I am living proof that the truths that our country holds - work.

I am the right person to be teaching U.S. history because I love this country and its history. I see history as a study of the past, in the present, to impact the future. I love working with young people - they are the future. It is a perfect fit.
